no alteration in the levels of the harbour bottom, a depth of 33 feet of water below datum is necessary for the ships at present frequenting the Port,to provide a satisfactory approach to the Piers on the west of

7. It is intended to dredge the Belcher Hidge, Hambler and renguin Shoals and the approaches to the Kowloon Wharf and Godown Company's Piers at Kowloon Point to depth of 36 feet below datum and the areas
around the Piers to a depth of 32 feet below datum and

Kowloon wharf and Godown Company will be asked to contri-
bute to the cost of the work at Kowloon Point.

A number of current observations on
both ebb and flood tides have been taken south of
Stonecutters island and from the results of these the
line of the proposed channel, to be dredged in the western portion of the harbour, has been determined. (See last paragraph of my telegram of 4th May). This channel will provide for deep draught vessels entering the harbour from the west. Observation of tidal currents
under the new conditions will assist in determining more accurately the lines of any future programme of dredging, which may become necessary, in the western section of
the Harbour.
9.
As the depth of water which should be
provided in Hong Kong harbour is influenced to some
extent by the draught of vessels permitted to pass through the Suez Canal, it is of interest to note that the 1921
